  • when do you produce enough breast milk to store???

It seems I only produce enough to get to the next feeding, I am not able to store any.  Is this common with an 11 day old baby?  It is my first baby and I am thinking of supplementing with a soy formula, but rather not.  Please any advice will help!!!   Thank you!

I always heard that you produced more milk in the morning, I think I read this in a pamphlet from the hospital.  So, what I did was in the mornings, I would always feed only on one side and then immediately pump on the other side.  That way, I would always start the day with an extra bottle.  Also, you have just been doing this for 11 days, the more you feed, the more milk your body will produce.  Your body will keep up with the baby's demands.

I also read somewhere to increase your milk supply, take a weekend and feed every 30 minutes to 1 hour, the stimulation increases supply.

Are you pumping exclusively? With an 11 day old baby I'd say your perfect. My son is almost four months old and I pump exclusively. I can never get ahead of him as I pump 4 ounces every three hours and he eats six ounces every three hours! I have to pump in the middle of the night when hes asleep to even be able to have six ounces for him to eat at each feeding! Don't worry about it but if you really want to increase your supply take two or three days and pump every 1 1/2 or 2 hours (I almost dried up and got my supply back by doing that) and take the fenugreek stuff. Hope this helps!

I agree with pumping in the morning, as that was my experience too; but that happened only on occasion. My baby ate less in the morning, so I would nurse on one side and immediately pump the other. In the afternoon/evening my little one couldn't get enough so I used what I had pumped in the morning. Good luck, and keep going with nursing; with my 1st baby I gave up, but am still going strong with my 4 month old.
