  • Exclusive pumper am I doing this right?

So for the last week I have been pumping and bottle feeding my 9 week old son. I was using nipple shields due to flat nipples (which I was never able to wean my son off of). We started giving him BM bottles so my husband could feed as well and last Monday he would not breast feed at all. I think a lot of the problem was he wanted the milk quickly and the bottle allows for that. This boy can suck down a 4oz bottle in 5-7 min. I am going back to work in 3 weeks so it's not like he was not going to go mainly on a bottle anyway. I have a ton of milk in the freezer since I pump every 3-4 hours (atleast I try and I get 7-10 oz each pumping session. While pumping can be a bit of a pain and time consuming I do want to continue for awhile longer since the benefits still outweight the hassle. Does anyone have suggestions? Our schedule normally goes as follows: 2am 4oz 5am 4-5oz 8am 4oz 11am 4oz 2pm 4-5oz 5pm 4oz 8pm 5oz Sleeps till 2a Am I doing this right???

I too have been exclusively pumping.  My son is 8 weeks old and I've been fighting a yeast infection on my nipples.  Excrutiating pain when I nurse.  Got an RX but isn't going away.  I can't stand pumping but agree the benefits of the breast milk outweigh the hassle.  We're on a similar schedule.  My son takes a 3.5 - 4 oz bottle every three hours except during the night.  We feed him if he wakes.  Usually his last bottle is around 1030 pm and he usually sleeps until 3 or 4 am.  I was able to nurse my older son with no problems but I continued to pump and my husband, who is a SAHD, kept the scheudle you described after I returned to work.  Your supply is awesome!  I pump about every three hours and only get 4-6 oz, maybe 7 if I'm lucky.

How do you get 7-10 oz when you pump? I try to pump every 3-4 hours and I am lucky to get 4 oz. I can't store any because she eats everything I pump.

Thanks for the support. When I pump first thing in the morning I normally get 6oz out of the right and 4 out of the left. Then through the day it drops to 4 and 3. If I stay REALLY hydrated I get more.
